This preserved savannah wilderness boasts animals including Lions, Cheetahs, Leopards, Elephants, Zebras, Hippos, Buffalo and Giraffes.

The endangered black rhino hide in the dense thickets while large rafts of hippo and enormous crocodiles are found in the Mara River.

The park is also home to over 450 bird species and boasts of the largest densities of lion in the world.

Wildebeest traverse its plains during their annual migration. One of the most exciting spectacles in the world is that of the ‘Great Migration’, where two million wildebeest, zebras and other herbivores pass through the Masai Mara/Serengeti ecosystem in Kenya and Tanzania. This migration – which normally runs from July through October, is a perilous exercise for the animals as they encounter many river crossings, and have to run the gauntlet of hungry crocodiles in waiting.

So immense is the Great Wildebeest Migration, is was recently listed as one of the “Seven New Wonders of the World”. Nowhere in the world offers such a spectacle.

The landscape has grassy plains and rolling hills, and is crossed by the Mara and Talek rivers. The area nearby is dotted with villages hosting the famous Maasai Manyattas. Maasai Mara.

The reserve is a photographer’s and naturalist’s paradise with its abundant animals and diversified vegetation that includes grassland, acacia woodland, riverine forest, non-deciduous thickets, acacia, tarchonanthus and croton scrub.
