Set on the city’s southern outskirts, Nairobi National Park has abundant wildlife that can be viewed against a backdrop of city skyscrapers and planes coming in to land. It’s one of the only national parks on earth bordering a capital city. Remarkably, the animals seem utterly unperturbed by it all.

Wide open grass plains and scattered acacia bush play host to a wide variety of wildlife including the endangered black rhino, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, buffaloes, giraffes and a diverse birdlife with over 400 species recorded.

Visitors can enjoy the park’s picnic sites, three campsites and walking trails for hikers. NNP is also a good place to experience the wildebeest migration in the summer months and to see four of the Big Five.

Besides animals, you can explore the unique ecosystems of Kenya’s oldest national park which features a sweeping landscape consisting of marshy wetlands, lush forests, rugged valleys and green grasslands.

Drive through the lush riverine forest and delight in cheeky monkeys swinging through leafy branches and colourful birds letting out a variety of fascinating calls.

The Athi River forms the natural southern boundary of Nairobi National Park and adds to the beauty of the lush and tranquil setting. The river has a number of pristine river pools where hippos and crocodiles surreptitiously survey the scenery.

Inquisitive hyraxes, or dassies, play and sun themselves on the warm rocks and you may even come across an elegant klipspringer or mountain reedbuck.
